Scenic Visions 2025: Mayport’s Future Takes Shape
Scenic Jacksonville presented an engaging and thoughtful panel discussion, “The Future of Mayport Village,” on Nov. 12, concluding the 2025 Scenic Visions three-part series, “Spotlight on Mayport Village,” co-hosted with the Mayport Waterfront Partnership.
Held at the William “Bill” Gulliford Jr. Community Center in Mayport, the conversation explored new developments around OCEARCH’s upcoming headquarters, ongoing investment in commercial and recreational docks, and the growing need for resiliency and improved infrastructure.
The discussion also highlighted the Mayport Lighthouse Association’s effort to relocate the St. Johns River Lighthouse, plans for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s second ferry, and ideas for welcoming revitalization while preserving the village’s character.
Attendees joined a Q&A session, underscoring a shared commitment to shaping Mayport’s future together.
A Conversation With Community Leaders
Moderator Georgette Dumont, chair of the University of North Florida’s Master of Public Administration program, led a dynamic exchange with:
- Christine Hoffman, executive director, Beaches Museum
- Bill Gulliford, former Jacksonville City Council member
- Fred Jones, director of strategic design, Haskell
- Chris Fischer, CEO, OCEARCH
Their insights helped frame both the opportunities and the responsibilities that come with Mayport’s next chapter.

The inaugural 2024 Scenic Visions series focused on Arlington and included a boat tour along the shoreline, a trolley tour of its midcentury and commercial corridors, and a panel discussion at Jacksonville University.
Community members joined Scenic Jacksonville and regional partners to reflect on Arlington’s rich history, unique architecture, natural beauty, and future potential. Partners included Old Arlington Inc., Jax Chamber Arlington Council, Greater Arlington Civic Council, and Jacksonville University.
